A mutual love for island life brought forth the inspiration for Tommy Bahama. In 1991 their concept launched. The products that followed were tailored around the fictional island dweller Tommy Bahama and his preferences. What would Tommy wear? What sort of activities would he take part in? The possibilities were endless and ideas caught flame like freshly lit tiki torches among the two couples.
This led to the design of tropical patterned silk shirts, tailored pants, and other island life themed menswear. Ladieswear followed, along with Tommy Bahama restaurants, bars, a special Tommy Bahama crafted rum, and eventually the launch of the Tommy Bahama furniture line.
