The appearance of styrene butadiene thermoplastic elastomer SBS is white or yellowish porous round rod or round flake—shaped particles. Combining the advantages of both rubber and plastic , it possesses excellent low—temperature endurance, permeability and wet skid resistance. Lt is characterized by easy molding and coloring, simple processing vulcanization free and low energy consumption. The left over bits and pieces can be recovered. It is widely used in shoes making,
adhesives, waterproof materials, modification of polymer and road asphalt, cable and toys.
Main application of SBS thermo plastic elastomer
1)Polymer modification
It can be blended with PE, PP and PS to modify their physical properties and widen their uses.
2)Adhesives
It can be used to produce all kinds of adhesives, especially hot—melt pressure sensitive adhesives, pressure sensitive adhesives and solvent type adhesives. They have advantages of high adhesion, non-poisonous and none environmental pollution.
3) Shoes making
SBS can be used to make vary kinds of leather shoes, traveling shoes and children’s shoes, which will be comfortable, excellent anti-slipping, ventilating, and easy coloring. SBS has a high strength with no need of vulcanization, making the process of shoes-making simple, and the leftover bits and pieces also can be recovered.
4)Asphalt modification
The low temperature flexing and anti-flowing property at high temperature of asphalt can be improved by adding 35-15% (wt%)SBS. The hardening, embrittling and cracking at low temperature of asphalt can be reduced due to the improved flexing so as to extend the service life of road and rolling materials. The softerning and flowing of asphalt at high temperature can be improved after the anti-flowing property is enhanced.
