Description-

Cissus Quadrangularis  is a succulent vine of India. It is one of the most commonly used medicinal plants in India, and is also used in traditional African and Ayurvedic medicine. All parts of the plant are used for medicine.

Chemical Constituents and Components-

Main chemical constituents are tetracyclic triterpenoids, onocer-7-ene-3alpha, 21 beta-diol and onocer-7-ene-3beta, 21 alpha-diol & two steriodal principles I and II, alpha-sitosterol, delta-amyrin.

Uses-

Cissus Quadrangularis extract is used for obesity, diabetes, a cluster of heart disease risk factors called “metabolic syndrome,” and high cholesterol. It has also been used for bone fractures, weak bones (osteoporosis), scurvy, cancer, upset stomach, hemorrhoids, peptic ulcer disease (PUD), painful menstrual periods, asthma, malaria, and pain. Cissus Quadrangularis' extract is also used in bodybuilding supplements as an alternative to anabolic steroids.

Action : 
Ketosterones :
1. It acts as antagonists to the glucocorticoid receptor and promote good bone health.
2. It shows anabolic steroid properties for healing of fracture.
3. It increases intramuscular creatinine levels.
4. It blocks the muscle damaging effect of cortisol and leads to the formation of new muscles.
7. It protects gastric mucosa against ulceration by its antisecretory and cytoprotective property.
8. It mobilizes fibroblast and chondroblasts to an injured tissue and enhances regeneration.

Using a specific Cissus Quadrangularis extract (Calzbone, Verdure Sciences) to the skin improves fracture healing in some people. It is unclear is the effects of this product are due to Cissus Quadrangularis or the other ingredients in this product, which include calcium, vitamin D, and boswelia. By mouth twice daily taking Cissus Quadrangularis's extract improve hemorrhoid symptoms for 7 days. Taking a specific Cissus Quadrangularis's extract reduces weight in obese and overweight people.
