Amino acids are biological derivatives of organic compounds containing amine (-NH2) and carboxylic acid (-COOH) functional groups. The key elements of an amino acid are carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, and nitrogen, though other elements are found in the side-chains of certain amino acids. Amino Acids are fundamental ingredients in the process of Protein Synthesis in plants.

In plants, nitrogen is first assimilated into organic compounds in the form of glutamate, formed from alpha-ketoglutarate and ammonia in the mitochondrion. In order to form other amino acids, the plant uses transaminases to move the amino group to another alpha-keto carboxylic acid.

Effect of Amino Acids on Plants:
