Introduction
E.P.S. (Expandable Poly Styrene) is a lightweight, rigid, plastic foam insulation material produced from solid particles of polystyrene. Expansion is achieved by virtue of small amounts of pentane gas dissolved into the polystyrene base material during production. The gas expands under the action of heat, applied as steam, to form perfectly closed cells of EPS. These cells occupy approximately 40 times the volume of the original polystyrene bead. The EPS beads are then molded into appropriate forms suited to their application. Products made from foamed polystyrene are nearly ubiquitous, for example packing materials,insulation,and foam drink cups.
Product Uses
1. Packing: lightest packaging material available;excellent cushioning and shock resistance for products where packages are subjected to rough handing or dropping.
2. New building Material: Widely used in buildings to provide thermal insulation and heat conservation;reducing energy consumption in air-conditioned buildings by providing effective thermal insulation.
3. Plastic foam flotation: Negligible water absorption and high buoyancy together with long life and mechanical strength;widely used in life-saving equipment,buoys,salvage,fishing and many other aquatic applications.
4.Decorative Material: Extruded,Blow molded and stretched and then used with many other materials to produce furnishings,articles in arts and crafts ,statues,stage backdrops and movie props as an advertising medium for product promotion.
5. Lost foam casting: Since EPS plastic foam is a hydrocarbon,it will decompose at high temperature with little residual ash;used in "Lost foam"foundry casting in place of traditional wooden patterns.
